SYC Leadership Team
As Cruising Chairman, I schedule boating events that are generally a few days or more. These events promote a cruising lifestyle of living on a boat for extended periods and traveling from place to place for pleasure.
As Fleet Captain, I am responsible for all on the water activities from cruises to racing. My effort is focused on supporting the various cruising and racing committee and ensuring our activities on the water are safe and fun.
As Membership Coordinator, I am responsible for receiving and reviewing membership applications and promoting new membership growth.
As Secretary and chair of the Communications Committee, I record the Club’s board meeting minute; work with Norm Brown and others to create KILO, the Club newsletter; post on the Club’s public Facebook page; work with the media; and generally communicate with members to make sure they know about all the great things happening at the Club.
As chair of the Education and Training committee, I arrange educational programs that will help the Club fulfill its mission to promote safe seamanship. Let me know if there’s something boating-related that you’d like to learn about. Bill has sailed over 60,000 nautical miles, over the past 40 years. Circled the globe twice with wife Laura in boats ranging from an engineless 28’ Columbia 8.7 to a 62’ Deerfoot with all the modern conveniences.
Sam, our second Commodore, and one of the club’s founding members, brought the club up to 65 memberships, created the first running of Southport Cup long-distance race, and revised the bylaws to give all members (whether boat-owners or not) a vote and enjoy the benefits of full membership; thereby eliminating the ‘social’ membership class. The club continued to support the NC Maritime Museum each year. Thanks Sam!
